At the age of 8, I sat with my grandfather and watched Disney’s ‘Hercules’. This moment will forever be one of the most powerful moments of my life. When the film was over, my grandfather turned to myself and my brother and said, “Now who would like to hear the real story?” From that moment on, I fell in love with Greek Mythology and would spend hours with my grandpa learning all he could tell me about these stories.
This is just one of the many things I can say my grandfather gave me that made me who I am today. Without this man, I would not have read Lord of the Rings at the age of 9. Without this man, I would not have become obsessed with learning about History and origin of a lot of fairy tales and Disney stories. Without this man, I would still be working in I.T. thoroughly miserable.
When my grandfather died in 2018, it completely broke my heart; this was someone who pretty much raised me and helped to develop my mind into what it is now. I have always said that my education came from my grandfather and not from school. But why write this down? Why does this have to be the first blog post on this site?
The last time I saw my grandpa, I made him a promise. I promised to do what I loved and to continue to write with the ultimate goal of getting published. It was because of him that I decided to start my own proofreading company. It is because of my promise to him that I plan to try and begin writing every day in his honour.
As such, it would be a disservice to this remarkable man for me to start this blog without giving him the credit he is due. So, Grandpa Charlie, this is for you.
